Following her great success playing the American country legend, June Carter, in the theater piece “Hello My Name is Johnny Cash”, Helen will incorporate this genre into her already eclectic mix of jazz, pop, and blues.

Together with her trio: Mini Schulz on bass, Jo Ambros on guitar, and Obi Jenne on drums, Helen will bring to her audience American standard country favorites like: Ring of Fire, Tall Lover Man, the L&N; and taken from the Johnny Cash/June Carter duets – the classic Help Me Make it Through the Night – reinterpreted in this quartet’s singular style.

Mixing of genres is something Helen Schneider has been known for in the past. In her new show she will continue this trend…

Helen will also reach into her past and bring her audience the powerful music from the incredible singer-songwriters of the 1960’s… including such classics as Bridge Over Troubled Water, Bird on a Wire, Both Sides Now, and more from Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Also reexamined, they become a powerful foil for the country folk melodies which were the root of the folk pop music of this remarkable decade.

Another evening of exciting interpretations from this multi-faceted American singer.

Hi Everybody,

A “Best Of…”!!!??? My first reaction when I heard about Edel Music’s plan to release a “best of” compilation was, as it always has been…”But I’m not finished yet!”. And once more I have tried to ignore my fear that my artistic life is coming to an end and try to be happy about a retrospective.

What is different this time is the fact that so much time has passed. I have been much more open to the idea of looking back. In fact, I have been curious. And so, I even agreed to write a liner note for this cd. My problem is that, as I began to plan how I would explain myself, I find I still believe that the work should speak for itself and that the motives and goals that initially were the driving force of a project are, in fact, irrelevant.

I also still believe that what constitutes a “best of” has nothing to do with my personal feelings about the songs. It is for the listener to decide. I know that sounds a little bit like a “disclaimer” and in some ways I guess it is.

This cd is not a “Her Picks” record (maybe some time in the future) but rather the caring, hard work of my friend and colleague at Edel Music, Stefan Buerger, who had a burning desire to put this together and fought to acquire the songs he wanted to include. Linda Uruburu (who has been part of my career since forever) dusted off files and searched for contacts in a world that has substantially changed over the “mmm”… years.

I rather like what Stefan has assembled. It is an eclectic, quirky, picture of an even more insanely diverse musical life than what is represented here.

One thing is very clear to me as I navigate my past: I have always been and always will be a “Working Girl”.

Enjoy…

Always,
Your Helen

“My last album “Like A Woman” was already very autobiographical,” explains Helen. “When Till Brönner suggested to me that we make an album that was modern but at the same time full of nostalgia, it struck me as exactly the right thing to do. With this project I opened a quite different, much earlier drawer of my biography.”

Her “whispering album”, as Helen says with a smile, takes the listener on a nocturnal amorous journey to a well-known, and yet brand new, dream world. This incredible singer – sometimes innocent, more often femme fatale – indulges in Cole Porter’s meaningful double meanings, Gershwin’s profound desires and many more interpretations full of sensuality and sentiment. Even the most experienced listener will discover a whole universe of new nuances and charming encores in these masterfully crafted tunes.

None other than the legendary Till Brönner and his longtime musical companion, Christian von Kaphengst, are responsible for a sublime production. Musicians such as Hildegrad Knef, Mark Murphy, No Angels and Thomas Quasthoff have already enjoyed success with the “Brönner-Touch”.

At a preview concert in Hamburg in May 2008, “Dream a little dream” was already enthusiastically received.
